I grew up in Colorado, learning to love the mountains and the wilderness. I studied philosophy at Colorado College, then lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, before moving to Northern California. I lived in the woods and the fog of rural Humboldt County. When it was time for a change, I moved to San Francisco. Being dissatisfied with my job prospects, I decided that law school was a path to doing meaningful work that might pay the bills, and so I began the journey of becoming a lawyer.

After law school, I moved to Brooklyn, NY. I worked for the City prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases, and then started my own firm, primarily representing parents accused of child abuse. I’ve also worked with non-profits and small businesses, and handled cases involving First Amendment issues, animal rights law, environmental law, art law, and criminal law. I continue to handle appellate cases in New York.

When I’m not wearing my lawyer hat (well, it’s more of a suit and tie, not a hat), I’m interested in things like food made from plants, fixed-gear bicycles, Buddhist philosophy and meditation, and backpacking trips.

Along the way I got married and we have a daughter. After 13 years in Brooklyn, it was time to seek out a more peaceful life in a small town. We now live in Hampshire County in Western Massachusetts.
