Why do we care about cannabis?

Cannabis legalization is the most exciting experiment in democracy and Federalism to emerge in a generation. Each state which has legalized cannabis in some form is carrying out its own little experiment, with different regulatory environments, different cultures, different fears and hopes. Change is rapid and turbulence and uncertainty are at significant levels.

It is no longer a question of if, or should, cannabis be legalized. It should and it will be. It is now a question of what will the process look like? Can it be done in a way that addresses social equity, racial justice, and repairs the multitudes of harms caused by prohibition?

In Massachusetts, and the Northeast, will there be genuine opportunities for first-time business owners, women, people of color, people with cannabis-related convictions, and family farmers to play a role in legalization and reap the benefits?

What will happen? Stay tuned - I have some ideas.
